DECATUR, Miss. — East Central Community College wide receiver Elijah Singleton broke his own single-game school record for receptions, but the Warriors came up short in a 24-13 loss to Northeast Mississippi on Thursday night.
Singleton hauled in 12 passes for 142 yards, surpassing the previous program mark he set last season. Quarterback Brady Hammonds completed 28 of 49 passes for 268 yards and a touchdown, finding Hayden Jackson for a 12-yard score in the first quarter.
Connor Mullins added a pair of 36-yard field goals as ECCC (0-1) closed within 14-13 midway through the third quarter. Northeast (1-0) answered with a field goal of its own before Tre'Marcus Webb's 64-yard punt return for a touchdown in the fourth quarter sealed the game.
The Warriors totaled 258 yards of offense but were hampered by nine punts and 12 penalties. La'Garrius Sims and Elgin McDuffey each recorded eight tackles to lead the defense.
ECCC returns to action Sept. 4 with a road trip to Northwest Mississippi Community College to take on the Rangers.
