DECATUR, Miss. — The East Central Community College baseball team swept a home doubleheader against Southwest Mississippi Community College on Tuesday at Clark/Gay Baseball Complex in Decatur, winning the opener 20-7 before closing the afternoon with a 5-2 victory in game two.

Game One: East Central 20, Southwest Mississippi 7

East Central erupted for 20 runs on 13 hits, powered by a dominant offensive effort across the lineup. Mason Hickman led the charge, going 3-for-5 with a triple, a home run and three RBIs. Ryan Nelson contributed a double and three RBIs from the shortstop position, while Jacob Wooten reached base four times, scored four runs and drove in three from the two-hole. Briceton Johnson added a home run and three RBIs, and DeMarkez West launched a home run of his own from the designated hitter spot, drawing three walks to finish with three runs scored.

On the mound, Trae Winn improved to 8-0 on the season, working 3.1 innings while allowing seven runs — four earned — on six hits, striking out four. Toby Thornhill, Landon Moore and Landon Willis combined to retire the final 10 batters they faced, striking out five while allowing no runs over the final 3.2 innings to seal the win.

Southwest Mississippi's offense was paced by three home runs — from Justin Domiano, Hayes Loper and Drew Swan — but the Warriors' pitching surrendered little after the third inning. Matt Newman absorbed the loss, falling to 3-4 after allowing eight runs on five hits in 2.2 innings.

Game Two: East Central 5, Southwest Mississippi 2

East Central needed only five runs to secure the victory behind a strong pitching effort from starter Jackson Clark and closer Luke Williams. Clark was sharp in his five-inning stint, striking out eight and allowing just two earned runs to improve to 6-1 on the year. Williams was untouchable in relief, striking out all six batters he faced across two innings to earn his first save of the season.

Offensively, Davin Lowery drove in the go-ahead run and Xavier Myles plated another as East Central built a 5-2 lead through six innings. Briceton Johnson and Pablo Roque each used their speed on the bases, combining for three stolen bases in the contest.

Southwest Mississippi's J.D. Hidalgo provided the lone offensive highlight for the visitors with a solo home run, but starter Rhyson Carroway took the loss, falling to 5-3 after allowing four runs — one earned — over three innings.

East Central combined for 18 hits and 25 runs across both games while holding Southwest Mississippi to a combined nine runs on 11 hits.
