Warriors Battle Ranked Foes in MACCC Play

PERKINSTON & DECATUR, Miss. — East Central Community College women's soccer faced a demanding week in conference play, taking on No. 12 Mississippi Gulf Coast on the road before returning home to meet No. 3 Holmes.

The Warriors opened in Perkinston, where nationally ranked Gulf Coast controlled the match and came away with an 8-0 victory. Goalkeeper Jaci Willis turned in a gritty performance, collecting 11 saves against 32 total shots to keep the Warriors battling throughout.

Back home in Decatur, ECCC bounced back with a much stronger showing against Holmes. The Warriors stunned the third-ranked Bulldogs early, surging ahead 2-0 in the first half. Holmes responded after the break, netting three second-half goals to rally for a 3-2 decision, but East Central's quick start showed the team's ability to stand toe-to-toe with one of the nation's elite programs.

After the week's results, the Warriors sit at 2-6-1 overall and 0-4 in MACCC play. ECCC will look to regroup on the road Friday, Oct. 3, at 5:45 p.m., when it travels to Ellisville to face Jones College.
