Lady Warriors fall in semester Opener

Decatur, MS- The East Central Community College Lady Warriors dropped a hard-fought nonconference game against Bishop State Community College Tuesday night from Brackeen-Wood Gym. Despite a valiant effort, the Lady Warriors were edged out 55-52 in the rematch with Bishop State. With this loss, East Central's record drops to 4-6.

The Lady Warriors overcame a slow start in the first half, trailing 32-22 at halftime, dominating the third quarter with an 18-4 run to take a brief lead heading into the fourth. However, Bishop State responded in the final frame with a 19-point surge to seal the victory.

East Central's offensive efforts were led by sophomore Mikayla Holifield, who contributed a team-high 12 points on 5-for-9 shooting from the field, along with five rebounds. Freshman Kelviana Parhm added 11 points, including three three-pointers, and pulled down seven rebounds.

Ruby Brannon chipped in with 10 points and five rebounds, while Alexia Johnson made her presence felt on the boards with nine rebounds, complementing her eight points. Kaliauna Jones also showcased her versatility with six rebounds and five points.

Despite their efforts, turnovers plagued the Lady Warriors, with 28 giveaways ultimately proving costly. East Central shot 36.7% from the field, while Bishop State capitalized on key opportunities to maintain their advantage.

The Lady Warriors will look to bounce back as they prepare for the start of conference play next Monday night as the Northeast Tigers come to Brackeen-Wood.
