East Central Softball Splits Doubleheader with Holmes

GOODMAN, Miss. — East Central Community College split a softball doubleheader with Holmes Community College on Friday, winning the opener 9-0 before falling in the nightcap 8-7.

Game 1: East Central 9, Holmes 0

Madye Bath powered East Central's offense, going 2-for-3 with a home run, a double and two RBIs while scoring twice. Maleigh Lemings went 2-for-2 with a double, two RBIs and a stolen base. Lanayah Henry added a hit and two RBIs, and Riley Ruple reached base repeatedly, scoring three times.

Neely Wolverton was dominant in the circle, throwing a complete-game shutout and allowing just three hits over six innings. Holmes was also hampered by five errors, which helped East Central extend several rallies.

Game 2: Holmes 8, East Central 7

East Central led after six innings but could not hold on, dropping the nightcap 8-7 in seven innings.

Bath again led the Warriors, going 4-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and two stolen bases. Lemings went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a stolen base, and Lyric Lay drove in two runs. Kathryn Montz and Lanayah Henry each added an RBI as well.

Three pitchers combined for East Central, with Macy Nordstrom the most effective out of the bullpen, striking out five over three innings.

Kamiyah Stephens led Holmes with two hits, a double and two RBIs. Miley Billie tripled and drove in a run, and Mauhree Jones earned the win in relief, entering in the fifth inning.

East Central finished the day 1-1, with Bath combining to go 6-for-7 across both games with a home run, a double, four RBIs and four runs scored.
