ECCC Softball Focused on Competing Daily Entering 2026 Season

DECATUR, Miss. — East Central Community College enters the 2026 softball season with experience, pitching depth and a focus on competing daily as it prepares for another challenging MACCC slate.

The Warriors return 11 players from last season's 24–19 team, giving the program a veteran foundation heading into the new year.

"We saw a lot of growth from last year's group," said head coach Leigh White. "We have 11 returners this season, and you can tell they've played a year in this league and understand what it takes to win. The growth from last year has carried over into this season and has helped with our incoming class. There's been a lot of growth from them."

Competing in one of the nation's toughest junior college conferences again will demand consistency.

"This league is really good — everyone is good," White said. "We can't take anyone or anything for granted. We have to compete on every level and take it one day at a time. It's a very competitive league."

ECCC's identity will again be built around pitching and defense. The Warriors feature depth in the circle and an experienced defensive unit, while continuing to develop offensively.

"We have depth in the circle, and we just have to keep it fresh. We have kids who can get the job done," White said. "Defense wins championships, and as we continue to get better on the offensive side, this team will be a hard team to beat."

New elements also shape this year's roster, including added speed and lineup versatility.

"This team is different from last year," White said. "We have some speed that will help us on the bases, along with depth in the pitching and experience on defense. If we can put everything together and peak at the right time, we'll be where we want to be in May."

Early-season scheduling is designed to prepare the Warriors for conference play.

"We're going to be tested early," White said. "We have to look past wins and losses and just get out there and compete to get ready for conference. Everything counts and matters, and you have to be ready every day."
