East Central Community College's golf team will be under new leadership in recent assistant coach Matthew Perry.

"I am now excited to see what the future holds for this program as it will be led by former Warrior golfer and current assistant Matthew Perry," said most recent head coach Scott Hill. "Coach Perry understands what it takes and truly embraces what it means to be a Warrior!"

"I am excited for this opportunity to lead the East Central Community College golf program and continue the legacy of coaches like Chris Clark and Scott Hill who have come before me," said Perry. "This program has a rich history of success and I look forward to growing that success for many years to come."

Perry played one season in the then-named MACJC, with time spent at Copiah-Lincoln Community College in 2016 and at ECCC in 2017.

"I played in this league in 2016-17, and the talent has only gotten stronger since then. ECCC has remained successful in the league because the program has always recruited student-athletes who have a high level of integrity and are singularly driven to pursue excellence in golf and their academics," Perry stated. "We will continue to follow these standards that have served the program so well in the past."

Perry prepped at Germantown High School in Madison, prior to his junior college playing career. In the high school ranks, Perry helped Germantown win five district champions and three MHSAA state championships. After his playing career ended, Perry continued his education at Mississippi State University, where he earned a bachelor's degree in history and anthropology, before pursuing a master's degree from the University of Mississippi in anthropology.

Upon completion, Perry worked at Ole Miss in the anthropology department for one year but returned to the community college ranks knowing that coaching was his ultimate goal.
