DECATUR, Miss. — East Central Community College delivered its most complete performance of the season Thursday night, taking down No. 15 Jones College 21–7 at Bailey Stadium. The Warriors improved to 2–5 overall and 2–2 in conference play with the victory.
Quarterback Brady Hammonds led an efficient offensive attack, completing 22 of 31 passes for 216 yards and a touchdown. Running back Malachi Mickel powered the ground game with 63 yards and a score on 13 carries, while Terry Patton Jr. hauled in four passes for 48 yards, including a 9-yard touchdown catch that opened the scoring.
The East Central defense stole the show early. Defensive back Jalen Anderson turned momentum in the Warriors' favor with a 48-yard interception return for a touchdown in the first quarter, helping ECCC jump out to a 14–0 lead. The Warriors forced three turnovers on the night, including two interceptions in the first seven minutes of play.
La'Garrius Sims anchored the defense with eight tackles and two sacks, while Elgin McDuffey added eight stops of his own. The Warrior front seven pressured Jones quarterback Jevarion Glover throughout the game, recording three sacks and holding the Bobcats to just 3.9 yards per play.
East Central outgained Jones 315–254 in total offense and controlled the clock with nearly 37 minutes of possession. Kicker Connor Mullins was perfect on all three extra-point attempts.
With the upset win, the Warriors handed Jones just its third loss of the season and notched their first victory over a ranked opponent in 2025.
East Central looks to carry the momentum into next week as the Warriors hit the road to face Copiah-Lincoln Community College on Thursday, Oct. 23, in Wesson. Kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m.
