Desmond Williams Named MACCC Player of the Week

After having a career night against the Pearl River Wildcats last Thursday, sophomore defensive back Desmond Williams (Forsyth, Ga.) got conference-wide attention, earning MACCC Defensive Player of the Week honors. Williams snagged a staggering four interceptions against the Wildcats in the Warriors 17-14 victory. Three of the turnovers took place in the first half before the ball-hawking DB grabbed another in the second. The four-pick performance is the most-ever on record at ECCC.

Williams matched his season totals from 2019 and 2020 (five games) in just 60 minutes. Williams was tied for the season-high interception leader in the modern era at ECCC with four on the year (tied with Juwon Hayes-Keyes, 2016 and Austin Balthazor 2015), but the sophomore has now separated as the lone player a top that list with five thus far in the 2021 campaign.

Along with the interceptions, Williams also picked up two tackles including a tackle for loss. On the year, Williams has 22 tackles, five interceptions, four pass breakups, and three field goal blocks.

The Warriors are 2-3 overall and 2-1 in MACCC South Division play. The Warriors are on the road this Thursday as the team travels to Perkinston to take on the Mississippi Gulf Coast Bulldogs in a pivotal south division matchup. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
