Jacob Wooten walks it off in Enid After Dark

ENID, Okla. — The clock had already rolled past midnight by the time the Warriors delivered one of the wildest finishes of the season.

After battling deep into the Oklahoma night at David Allen Memorial Ballpark, East Central Community College opened the NJCAA Division II Baseball World Series with a dramatic 12-11 walk-off victory over Wake Technical Community College early Sunday morning.

The first pitch came at 11:30 p.m. Saturday night. The final swing came around 3 a.m.

East Central improved to 47-13 overall with the opening-round win.

The game featured four lead changes and momentum swings from the opening inning.

Wake Tech struck first with a two-run opening frame, but the Warriors answered immediately with three runs in the bottom half of the inning behind RBI efforts from Pablo Roque and Xavier Myles.

Wake Tech surged back ahead with a five-run second inning to take a 7-3 advantage before East Central responded again. Mason Hickman homered during the bottom half of the inning, and Kayden Peoples tied the game with a two-run double before Myles pushed the Warriors back in front with an RBI single.

The Warriors reclaimed momentum in the sixth inning when Jackson White delivered an RBI double and later scored on a wild pitch to give East Central a 10-8 lead.

Wake Tech answered with three runs in the seventh inning to move back in front 11-10, setting the stage for late-night heroics.

Hickman led the offensive effort with four hits and a home run, while Peoples drove in two runs and White added a key RBI double. Myles also finished with two RBIs for the Warriors.

Luke Williams earned the win in relief after shutting down Wake Tech over the final innings, striking out seven batters to preserve the victory.

Jacob Wooten delivered the final blow in the bottom of the ninth, launching a walk-off home run to send the Warriors into celebration in Enid After Dark.
