East Central Community College's baseball team came up short in game three of the Region 23 Tournament, falling 10-0 to Pearl River Community College on Saturday afternoon. With the loss, the Warriors' run in the tournament ended, but hopes for a continued postseason remain alive as the team now awaits word from the NJCAA committee on a possible at-large bid to the NJCAA Division II World Series, which will be announced on Tuesday, May 20.
Despite a solid start defensively, including a double play to end the first inning and strong middle relief from multiple pitchers, East Central was unable to generate enough offense against Pearl River's pitching. The Warriors managed four hits on the day, with Eli Smith leading the way at the plate, collecting two of those.
Now, with a strong season record and competitive performance throughout the year, East Central will turn its focus to the NJCAA selection process, hoping to earn one of the two coveted at-large spots in the World Series field.
More information will be released as it becomes available from the NJCAA on Tuesday.
