ECCC Student-Athletes Honored at Spring Banquet

Several East Central Community College student-athletes received honors during the college's Spring 2018 Sports Awards Banquet held recently in Mabry Cafeteria on the campus in Decatur.

Baseball

Sophomore outfielder Cain Cleveland of Hickory and Newton County High School received the Scholar-Athlete Award for Baseball.

Softball

Sophomore pitcher Anna Norris of Grove Oak, Ala., and Geraldine High School received the Scholar-Athlete Award for Softball.

Golf

Freshman golfer Nathan Davis of Decatur and Newton County High School received the Scholar-Athlete Award for Golf.

Cheerleading

Receiving cheerleading awards were sophomores Kristen Kennedy of Union, Scholar-Athlete Award for Cheerleading; Sydney Baucum of Decatur and Newton County High School, Scholar-Athlete Award for Cheerleading; and Mallory Myers of Decatur and Newton County, Warrior Award.

Men's Tennis

Receiving awards from the men's tennis team were sophomores Emontie Lewis of Byram and Terry High School, Warrior Award; Tom Langelaar of Veldhoven, Netherlands, Scholar-Athlete Award for Men's Tennis and Team Captain; Joseph Jabour of Vicksburg and Warren Central High School, Team Captain; and William Wooten of Vicksburg and Warren Central, Warrior Award.

Women's Tennis

Receiving awards from the women's tennis team were sophomore Julia Johnston of Florence High School, Scholar-Athlete Award for Women's Tennis, Warrior Award, and Team Captain; sophomore Tatiana Quinonez of Bogota, Colombia, Team Captain; and freshman Bethany Wellerman of Lawrence and Newton County Academy, Most Valuable Player.

Men's Basketball

Receiving awards from the men's basketball team were freshman guard Roti Ware of Morton, Most Valuable Offense and MACJC Second Team All-State; freshman guard Tre Pinkston of Forest, Most Improved; sophomore guard Jerome Adkins of Meridian and Clarkdale High School, Warrior Award; sophomore forward Cameron Diggs of Blount High School in Mobile, Ala., Most Valuable Player; sophomore guard Tavonta Jones of Meridian, Hustle Award; sophomore guard Jaquan Dotson of Philadelphia and Neshoba Central High School, Most Valuable Defense; and sophomore guard Thurston McCarty of Shubuta and Quitman High School, Scholar-Athlete Award for Men's Basketball.

Women's Basketball

Receiving awards from the women's basketball team were freshman forward Whitney Waters of Heidelberg, Most Improved; freshman guard Tan Lloyd of Newton, Hustle Award; freshman guard Diamond Wraggs of Louisville, Most Valuable Defense; sophomore guard Autumn Taylor of Newton, Most Valuable Player and MACJC Second Team All-State; freshman guard Feria Mays of Kosciusko, Warrior Award; freshman guard Tamirra Haskin of Laurel, Most Valuable Offense; and sophomore forward My'Neka Frazier of McComb and South Pike High School, Scholar-Athlete Award for Women's Basketball.
